Medicare Advantage – HMO Plans

The two most popular types of Medicare Advantage plans are PPO and HMO plans. We cover PPO’s here. This section will be on Medicare Advantage HMO plans. Check this video below for an idea of how the two types are different.

What are Medicare Advantage HMO Plans?

The key feature of HMO plans is that they have a closed network of providers that you must use to get your health care, or else, your plan will not pay. Most of the time, this also means you’ll need a referral from your primary care doctor (PCP) in order to go to a specialist. The tradeoff is that on HMO’s you can often get lower co-pays than on PPO plans.

Who are Medicare Advantage HMO plans best for?

HMO’s are a good fit for people who don’t do much traveling.
HMO’s are a good fit for people who don’t have many doctors.
