What are Medicare Advantage HMO Plans?

The key feature of HMO plans is that they have a closed network of providers that you must use to get your health care, or else, your plan will not pay. Most of the time, this also means you’ll need a referral from your primary care doctor (PCP) in order to go to a specialist. The tradeoff is that on HMO’s you can often get lower co-pays than on PPO plans.

HMO’s are a good fit for people who don’t do much traveling.
HMO’s are a good fit for people who don’t have many doctors.
HMO’s are a good fit for people who are on a very low income.
